House Bill 525 was approved by the Governor on March 31, 2008. The bills that require preclearance are sent to the AG’s office after the Secretary of State's Office has assigned chapter numbers to the signed bills, which generally occurs after the session has ended. It generally takes a couple of weeks after the close of the session for the AG to get the signed bills from the SOS office.

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act requires 60 days from the date of receipt of the submission to review the proposed changes. Since this bill changes the salary/compensation of an elected official, preclearance is required.

The above information came from the Attorney General’s Office. It looks like sometime around the end of June, 1st of July before this will take effect. I will then notify everyone in writing. I also hope to have new fee forms printed for the June Coroners Assoc Meeting.

WELCOME!

We welcome you to our new home on the worldwide web. We think you will find our website informative and educational. The Mississippi Coroner-Medical Examiner Association is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support the coroners of the Magnolia State through education and training, providing resources to assist in death investigations, developing strategies to prevent loss of life, and rendering support to each county coroner when requested to aid in the timely resolution of death investigations.

This mission is accomplished with the assistance and support of a number of associate members. These organizations, federal and state as well as private citizens and businesses, have joined with the coroners of Mississippi to provide the additional resources necessary to complete what can be a difficult but vital task for the citizens of the counties they serve.

We hope you find your visit here beneficial.
